I have lived in the valleys of South Wales all my life within a musical family.  My grandfather taught my to play the cornet when I was six and I first played with the Brynmawr Scouts band where my grandfather was the conductor.  Due to his passing, I joined Newbridge Celynen Band with my mother, father and brother around 1970 where after some time I progressed onto flugel horn.

It was while I was playing flugel, I was fortunate to be picked to play with the Gwent Youth Band, where I made life long friends and gained valuable experience from playing with experienced players and world renowned conductors.  While with the Gwent Youth Band, I switched to the soprano cornet with my local band (of which my mother was the founder and conductor).  I attained the principal seat for the remaining years I played with the Gwent youth Band.

Throughout my banding life I have played with numerous bands of all abilities; helping out with the learners, to playing in Championship section bands and attending concerts and contests throughout the UK and Europe.

I currently play for a few bands and also help out with the Greater Gwent brass band on a Saturday morning, where two of my grandchildren play.  I recently joined Abergavenny Borough Band at the beginning of 2023 and have been amazed by the warm welcome I received and how friendly they all are.

This will be my third visit to Menorca with Gwent Charity Brass and I am very excited to be helping to raise money for the Rotary Club of Menorca.
