Jonathan Mudd

Phil Hayes
Jon started playing his cornet the age of 11 in Somerset where there was a strong peripatetic set up and opportunities to play in county wind bands, orchestras and away from school, local village bands.

His first village band brings memories of some wonderful characters with rehearsals being joined by pet labradors. Jon was principal trumpet for the county wind band and went on to play Cornet, Trumpet, Soprano and Flugel Horn at various stages with different groups with some inspiring times playing Trumpet at York University  The county youth scene was well funded in those days and attracted great soloists and conductors to guide and inspire.

With a break for life and kids Jon restarted banding in London where he was the Principal Euphonium player for Fairlop Brass band. Bands are ranked in divisions and Fairlop went from 4th to 1st division in six years with three national finals and a win at Wembley stadium.  There were some memorable Banding tours in Europe along the way.

After another break and some moves with work Jon restarted playing Cornet with Abergavenny in 2016, before moving to the Flugel Horn seat.
