Andrew Richards

When Andrew's family moved to Abergavenny, he was 9 yrs old and started learning to play the cornet in the Borough Band. He's still there today, some 51yrs later, having played Assistant Principal Cornet, Principal Euphonium, Bb Tuba and Baritone. During his time with the Band he has played at countless competitions, his first in 1967 at Bristol's Colston Hall and his most memorable at the Royal Albert Hall in the National Championships of Great Britain. He was one of the first members of the Monmouthshire Youth Brass Band, the precursor of the now well renowned Gwent Youth Brass Band.
Andrew says the most rewarding aspect of being in the band is watching and helping youngsters to learn and develop their musical abilities.
